Hike in Naxos' mountains to a magical chapel

Monastery Fotodotis on Naxos

If you do not feel like hiking for two hours to the highest peak on the island, you can take an 30 of minutes between goats, sheep and wild wine for a photo trip.

Here we go

The starting point to the famous Again is the same as the castle chapel Cristo's Fotodotis, Only the way maybe not quite as spectacular.

So you start at the Agia Marina between the mountain villages Filoti and a Aspirathos and walk up a well-accessible dirt path. The slope is minimal and even with children and sneakers no problem. Slowly, the trail winds its way further and further into the mountains, around us the bells of goats and sheep ring out along the way. After a last hill you can see the small castle from afar with a view of the sea and the islands behind.

Once there, a nice lady and the priest welcome us. We had expected nothing special and were the more enthusiastic about this cute church in nowhere. You can walk around in the small castle and open different doors and climb the winding stairs. A little adventure.

Inside, it is painted as a reward for our effort, there is still a local sugar candy. Spoiled by this surprisingly beautiful experience, we hike back to the parking lot.
