The design of the architect, Jan van Wijk, symbolizes the growth and development of the language Afrikaans. It is a monument to the roots of the language that has developed across the three continents of Europe, Africa and Asia. The Taalmounment in Paarl is the only language monument in the world. The word taal is Afrikaans and means translated languages. The monument to the Afrikaans language was on 10. October 1975 completed.
