Oh what a view! At 2.200 meters above sea level Hochgurgl is that Hotel Riml* in the middle of the snowy mountains and is considered the highest 4 * superior hotel in Austria. So the perfect accommodation in modern style for a ski holiday with children on the slopes with childcare, indoor pool, half board and adults-only area for parents - welcome to heaven!
Als in the evening after a good three hours drive from Munich Hochgurgl in Tyrol arrive, we have no idea of the unique mountain panorama in the darkwhich gives us in Hotel Riml* surrounds. We are warmly welcomed at the reception, the car is parked free of charge and the luggage is brought to our room. We get a brief introduction and information brochure and are really looking forward to the upcoming weekend!
The Hotel Riml for a ski holiday with children on the slopes:
The ambience is rustic but modern. We immediately like the many panoramic windows and stylish details, such as flat screens, effect fire and the elegant furnishings with beautiful fabrics and lots of wood in the lobby and in the restaurant.
In total there is enough space on four floors in single rooms, double rooms, suites and apartments. A combination of traditional ambience, modern comfort and casual luxury ensures the special feel-good factor in all rooms! The dining rooms and the sun terrace are located on the ground floor. On the first floor there is childcare and indoor golf with a putt-in bar and on the fourth floor there is the really fantastic adults-only wellness area with 4sqm of enjoyment and relaxation. Then there is the spacious Family SPA with panoramic pool in the basement and family sauna area. More on that later.
Our stomach growls and after a little breather in our apartment, we go straight to dinner. This is natural Included in the half board and consists of a children's menu, a starter buffet and an a la carte menu, It left nothing to be desired. Our little one is immediately blown away by her child's chair with children's place setting! The kids can either eat alone from 18pm with their parents as a companion (and then go to childcare so that the parents can dine in peace;) or from 19.30 p.m. then sit together with the parents at the table.
Dinner and breakfast
The children's menu makes every child's heart beat faster, all favorite dishes from burgers, sausages, schnitzel and fries to soups, salad and ice cream or pancakes are included as a dessert. For the adults there is a lavish starter buffet with salads and hearty snacks with a variety of cheeses, which of course the kids can also take.
A main course is a menu served from the daily menu or from the standard menu. Of course, the different gears can also be combined. The selection is so large that I can hardly decide. On the first evening there was fish on vegetables with soybean sprouts and panna cotta for dessert. Delicious!
At breakfast from 8 a.m. the infinite selection continues, Egg dishes, waffles and fresh juices. Of course there are also yoghurts, muesli and various cold cuts for fresh bread. In addition, you can of course also order from the menu with my favorite dish, avocado toast with fried egg or delicious porridge. My highlight at the buffet are the fresh fruits and delicious croissants or cakes. Of course, the coffee should not be missing.
Those who feel a little hungry in the afternoon after skiing or sledding can snack on the cake buffet from 16pm. Dinner and breakfast are served at a fixed table in the main restaurant in two different areas. Afternoon snacks and children's meals are available at the panorama bar with free seating. The view is awesome everywhere on the mountains and a snowy panorama! The staff is really very attentive and extremely friendly and fond of children!
Well satiated and tired, we finally make ourselves comfortable in our spacious apartment on the 2nd basement. We have apartment 1 in a maisonette style with a cozy living room with a small terrace and guest toilet in the hallway.
They are in the upper part two huge double rooms and the wellness bath with double wash basin and rainforest shower. A feel-good dream for the whole family. There is no kitchen, but there is a small fridge and glasses. Everything is kept in a modern, alpine lifestyle and we immediately feel at home and fall happily into bed.
The next day, of course, our children test childcare right away. This is on the 1st floor and is open from 9.30:16.30 a.m. to 19:21 p.m. and then again from XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. can be used from 0 years without prior registration, On request, the kids can even be taken to the ski course for a small surcharge and also picked up again.
When we hand over the children, they are registered briefly and the fun can begin. Two trained supervisors lovingly take care of our kids. There is a spacious craft room with a mini ball pit and in the back a slide and various toys. A kitchen with a changing table is also available for younger guests. When we pick up our two kids 7 & 4 years after about two hours, they worked hard and are more than happy!
Other for kids:
In addition to a baby cot and high chair, a baby monitor is also provided if required and baby food can also be ordered (pre-order for € 3,00). There are even extra slippers and bathrobes in the room for the little ones and an information brochure for families.
In the basement there is, especially for the older children another gaming room with video games, table football and air hockey for a fee. My son of course loves these games and especially can't get enough of the pool table. There is a small outdoor playground on the first floor, So it won't get boring.
This golf course is on 700sqm the largest of its kind in Europe, Okay, not really just for kids now, but rather for the professionals. The kids can also be accompanied by adults. Since we are not golfers now, we have not tested the course.
Adults only area from 16 years
So while the children romp, tinker and paint in childcare, we can enjoy the adults-only area on the 4th floor with a clear conscience, My husband books a massage straight away while I just the mega ambience in the relaxation area in lounge chairs or hanging chairs enjoy with a good book in hand with this incredible panorama of the mountains! It is really very special.
The highlight is definitely the outdoor whirlpool! Here I feel incredibly free and the fresh air with this view is really pure wellness for me. Of course, if you like sauna & co, you will not miss out. I could actually spend the whole day here (open from 12pm to 19.45pm), but the kids are already waiting for us in the children's area.
Unfortunately the weather today is rather gray in gray, so we want to try out the family spa in the basement for four, There is hardly anything going on at this time and we are almost alone here. There are two areas on 1000 square meters. First, the textile-free family sauna with various showers, chill facilities and saunas (open from 12 noon).
However, our kids are much more excited about the pool. The fact that this unique panoramic window offers a view of the ski slopes is irrelevant for the children. However, for us parents it is a dream! So while the two splash around in the pool, we enjoy the view.
In addition to the pool, there is also a small baby pool with bubbles, a relaxation room and a small family sauna with showers. We will definitely spend two hours here our daughter just never wants to leave (open from 7am to 19.45pm). But slowly we want to get out into the snow!
Even if it is still a bit cloudy outside, we want to enjoy the snow on a rapid toboggan run. We are big toboggan fans and there is hardly any snow with us in Munich this year. We first borrow two toboggans in the Sports shop Riml down at the hotel for a small fee and only run about 300 meters to the start of the toboggan run at the middle station of the Hochgurglbahn. This 3km long natural toboggan run runs almost parallel to the valley run until the entrance to the valley station of the Hochgurglbahn.
In the beginning it always goes straight ahead and you can really set the pace. Always with a view of the great panorama. From the middle it gets really curvy and my daughter and I have the fun of our lives to put ourselves in the curves. We also win the race against our men and at the end take the gondola back to the middle station to the hotel, For the rest of the day, we simply enjoy the great amenities of the hotel and the delicious cake buffet in the afternoon!
Ski vacation with children on the slopes
When we wake up on Sunday morning and open the curtain, this time the sun shines towards us. I knew a perfect day of skiing was waiting for us! After a hearty breakfast let's first put our luggage in the locker room with lockers, toilets and showers for € 20 deposit. Really very practical. In the basement we can have ours Put on ski equipment from our private locker in the ski room, If you don't have skis yourself, you can borrow them on the 2nd basement Sports shop Riml with high-quality brands for a fee.
After that, it’s the same next to the ski room with the lift up to the slopes, To get started in the big and snow-sure Ski area Gurgl we either walk straight to the left Krumpwasserlift with tractor or fasten your skis and go right to the 4-seater chairlift Big Karbahn and the skiing fun can begin! I have to confess, I have never started a skiing holiday with children on the slopes so easily.
The Ski school Hochgurgl offers Ski courses for children and adults on. These start directly at the drag lift of the Krumpwasserlift right at the hotel from Sun to Fri at 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 14 p.m. - 16 p.m. Registration is more than straightforward. We are on time at the meeting point and the ski instructors are already waiting for all children. Our 4 year old daughter is on skis for the first time and can go to the children's area with a magic carpet.
Our 7-year-old son can already ski a little and may make the blue slopes unsafe with another boy and the ski instructor. Two hours of “trial training” cost € 45 per child and we pay later at the main cash desk the Great Karbahn. So the children are in good hands and we can too only skiing for two for the first time in ages, if only for two hours.
The Ski Area Gurgl
So we start comfortably with the Big Karbahn and continue with the chairlifts Wurmkogl I & II up to over 3000 meters in altitude Top mountain star, Here at the top awaits us an indescribable view and a really nice place to stop with photo spots on every corner.
But since we only have two hours and at least a small part of the 25 lifts open over 100 kilometers of slopes want to explore, let's start on our first departure. The slopes are well groomed and offer snow fun from mid-November to April. Fortunately, there are also a lot of blue and red slopes, which suits me very well. You can then stop off at 13 ski huts or the 12 hotel restaurants.
So we enjoy our family break for two, the incredible mountain panorama around us and the perfect day of skiing in the sunbefore we pick up our kids again after two hours. My husband goes out on the slopes with our son, while I "have" to go back to the pool with my daughter. An eventful weekend comes to an end, Our kids (and of course we too) really want to come back!
Prices from € 188 per person in the apartment including half board (children's prices on request)
