I am an avowed Mauritian fan! It's just the perfect travel destination with and without kids to escape the cold season here in Germany. After my detailed travel report, there are now my five highlights of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius for you:
WWe spent two weeks on this beautiful island traveling individually with the rental car our main occupation was beach hopping. Only the east of Mauritius we have not seen, so I leave this region completely outside. Here are my favorites of the five best beaches in Mauritius:
Favorite beaches in Mauritius in the north:
The north of Mauritius is rather touristy and crowded. But if you are a bit off the beaten path outside of Grand Baie, one experiences in the truest sense of the word his blue wonder:
1. Beach at Grand Gaube with photo stop
I love the turquoise color of the sea! And I've never seen them shine so intensely as here Grand dormer, There are basically two nice spots. The first photo stop is still relatively well signposted and you simply turn left from the main road at the sign "Anse la Raie" from there and can park somewhere in the meadow and walk around. It is not really nice to swim here, but the sea shines almost unreal the beautiful filao trees are a highlight for the photo eye!
The second stop is a bit more hidden and not so easy to find. We had to drive in circles again and again until we found this place. In principle, this is located directly in the place of Grand dormer at the church St. Michel Church, right next to the Kite School Kite At North kitesurfing school & lodge.
Here is a nice public beach and the locals sit under large, sweeping trees and picnic. Meanwhile the kids are romping in the sea with dogs and have fun! You might have to say that it is quite windy here in the north. Not for nothing you can kitesurf here well. For me, however, a very authentic part of Mauritius and therefore among the top 5.
2. Public Beach Mont Choisy
This beach is more of a classic amongst the beaches in Mauritius, but no less beautiful. We especially liked the relaxed atmosphere here. The beach is really miles long and not built by hotels. Here everyone still finds a quiet spotat least during the week. At the weekend it is busy with locals having a picnic.
Coming from the north, there is also a stall with snacks and delicious food right at the beginning and there is also an ice cream van. Locals and tourists alike cavort here. There is also a public toilet.
The water is not quite as turquoise as in Grand Gaube & Co, but nice flat and therefore perfect for kids. Palms are also sought in vain, but I fell in love with the Filao trees in Mauritius and they donate nice shadows. A perfect beach for relaxed beach days with the family.
Favorite beaches in Mauritius in the southwest:
Especially the southwest of Mauritius is in many ways a region of superlatives! Not only the beaches are WOW, but also the nature! You should not miss these beach highlights here:
3. Public Beach Tamarin
One thing in advance - Tamarin Beach is not the classic beach you expect in Mauritius. He has neither turquoise blue sea, nor palm trees and no sandy beach. And yet - or maybe because of it - he is one of my favorite beaches in Mauritius!
Because just this original feeling gives the place its magical effect. There is only one hotel across the street and nothing else is going on here. We are almost alone here and only a few locals and tourists get lost with us here. The sea is churned up because here is the only place on the island where the coast is not protected by a reef.
Therefore, Tamarin is the perfect beach for surfing. The pros paddle out to the reef, I as a beginner prefer to stay near the beach at the river mouth. The hotel offers a surfboard rental, a few snacks and on the street is a small beach shack with delicious take-away food. For me one of the coolest beaches in Mauritius!
4. Public Beach Le Morne at the St. Regis Hotel
Finally - here is the postcard beach, as you imagine it! White sandy beach, palm trees and turquoise blue sea. But unfortunately, almost the entire, kilometer-long beach before Le Morne Brabant plastered with luxury hotels.
The most beautiful spot is located exactly between the Hotel LUX Le Morne and the St. Regis Hotel. There you can park at the roadside and walk to the public beach. Here then opens the perfect backdrop with the palm trees and the Le Morne Mountain in the background - just fantastic.

Favorite beaches in Mauritius in the southeast:
My personal insider tip in Mauritius! Because the region is not necessarily the most popular because of the airport and the corresponding aircraft noise. Nevertheless for me the perfect mixture of dream beach and active lifestyle:
5. Beach between Pointe d'Esny and Blue Bay
The last four nights we have a small dream villa right on the sea between Pointe d'Esny and the Blue Bay. It's the ingenious mix of action and turquoise sea, nature and joie de vivremaking this beach section my favorite beach in Mauritius.
We can go snorkeling here wonderfully, SUP driving and when we get bored after Mahebourg drive to the market or to the Blue Bay with several beach stalls and my favorite cafe. There are also some good restaurants around the corner. Here I could actually stay forever and it certainly will not be boring here.
